QUINCY
Kevin Keith didn’t have it this time. Joe Edgerly did. That was the story at Adams Field on Thursday authentic Tim Lincecum jersey Orange as the North Quincy High School baseball team blanked Quincy, 8-0, behind Edgerly’s three-hit shutout.
The victory – in the semifinals of the Quincy-North Quincy Tournament – was payback of sorts for the Red Raiders, who had dropped a 4-2 intracity decision here last Wednesday.
“We wanted to get back at them,” Edgerly said of the Presidents. “Obviously, the whole season is not about beating Quincy, but it’s nice. authentic Willie Mays jersey White It’s definitely nice.”
North Quincy (9-2) will return to Adams at 7 tonight to play Oliver Ames in the championship game. O.A. downed authentic Will Clark jersey Grey Milton in Thursday’s other semifinal.

Quincy (3-4) will play Milton in the consolation final at 4 p.m.
In last week’s win over North, Keith had been dominant, losing a no-hitter with two outs in the sixth. This time, the right-hander lasted only three-plus innings. North touched him for three runs in the third, and Keith departed after loading the bases with no outs in what became a five-run fourth.
“It didn’t go as well as the other night, obviously,” Keith (1- 2) said. Tim Lincecum official jersey “I pitched well the other night. Just gotta bring it the next game.”
Asked what was bothering him most, Keith said, “The fastball was all right; I just couldn’t throw it authentic Tim Lincecum jersey Grey for strikes. The curveball was still there. I just couldn’t put hitters away.”
Instead, it was Edgerly (3-0) who starred, losing his own no-hit bid on Lukas McDonough’s slicing double to right leading off the fifth. Edgerly finished with a flurry – back-to-back authentic Willie McCovey jersey Grey strikeouts to end the game – but he fanned only two other batters.
“I trust my defense and let them do the work – just like they’ve been doing all season,” he said. “With good run support I just let them put it in play. We’ve got one of the best defenses I’ve seen.”
“I would like to say it was a senior performance,” North coach John Fidalgo said, “but he’s been doing that authentic Tim Lincecum jersey Black for two years for us. He’s been our most consistent pitcher over the last two years. Last year he was our closer and he came in and did a great job. This year we put him into a starting role and he’s continued to step up.”
North squandered some scoring chances early but finally broke through on cleanup hitter authentic Tim Lincecum jersey Cream John Ainsley’s one-out, two-run single in the second. Ainsley also drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth.
“All year long he’s been consistent,” Fidalgo said. “He Will Clark official jersey always, always steps up when authentic Pablo Sandoval jersey Cream there are runners in scoring position. He doesn’t try to do too much, and we kind of preach that. Our 3, 4 and 5 hitters aren’t prototypical big power guys. We tell them – we want singles.”
Matt Jay, Lamonte Toomes and No. 9 hitter Dan Russell each had two hits for North, and Ryan Louis, Colin Ryan and Toomes drove in runs.
The Red Raiders have won three in a row and have already equaled their win total from last season (9-11).
“We’re excited and we feel like we deserve it; we worked hard,” Fidalgo said, “but we’re only halfway done. We have to continue on this pace.”

Spring has sprung, the draft is done; let’s shelve the NFL till fall | The Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger-Star, Norfolk, VA Newspaper | Find Articles at BNET
IF IT’S NOT ASKING too much, in the next day or two, can we please have a furlough from football?

At the risk of being Dwyane Wade official jersey excommunicated from the national religion, I’d like a small break from the NFL.
What’s needed is just enough time to be reminded that baseball season is under way, and that the NBA playoffs are heating up, while rumor has it that golf, tennis and other spring sports also are in session.
Rounding the far turn this week is the Kentucky Derby, but the traditional pounding of hooves the first Saturday in May is sneaking up on little cats’ feet.
In part, that’s because of football. Even in the authentic Tyson Chandler jersey White spring, the NFL sucks all the oxygen out of the room authentic Chris Bosh jersey Redauthentic Chris Bosh jersey White and paddock.

Under the circumstances, and given his well-recognized gifts for unintended self-parody and drawing an audience, I’m surprised NFL draft guru Mel Kiper Jr., hasn’t been Tyson Chandler official jersey asked to handicap horse flesh at Churchill Downs.
With the same enthusiasm with which he breaks down football livestock, Kiper could talk about a thoroughbred’s “great motor,” while discussing potential “value picks,” and evaluating horses that have “athleticism you just can’t coach.”
How is it, by the way, that Kiper doesn’t star in his own reality show?
Kiper and Co. were hard to avoid over the weekend, but tell me you didn’t spend too much time Saturday or Sunday afternoon watching the NFL draft while our area was enjoying the sunniest, warmest weather of the year.
Redskins fans found out quickly enough that one of the players who benefited most from the yearly cattle call wasn’t even in authentic Chris Bosh jersey Black the authentic Tyson Chandler jersey Blue draft. Jason Campbell still has his job. At least it appears that way after the Skins failed to trade up for American Idol Mark Sanchez.
I received an e-mail Sunday from a reader who wondered authentic J.J. Barea jersey Blue if the Redskins’ reported pre-draft infatuation with Sanchez amounted to a ruse on the part of owner Daniel Snyder.
The reader speculated that management might have just been trying to light a fire under Campbell.
“Is this far-fetched?” asked the e-mailer. “Am I giving Snyder and Co. too much credit for shrewdness?”
Other than in finding new ways to print money, “shrewd” is not a word often associated with the Redskins franchise.
But losing out on Sanchez isn’t necessarily a bad thing if the Redskins hope to be a serious contender next season.
As a rookie playing in the NFC East, Sanchez would have needed time to get acclimated. Presumably, many of the adjustments facing Sanchez have already been made by Campbell.
Though the Jets don’t want to believe it, Sanchez is no sure thing. As for the Skins’ attempt to upgrade the position by trying to trade for Jay Cutler, that was what it was – an owner looking for a new toy.
The confusing way the Skins have handled their quarterback situation has fueled perceptions that Campbell is a flop. But it’s too early to say that.
He may not lead his team to the Super Bowl the way a franchise quarterback should, but he could be good enough to go along for the ride, much as Rex Grossman was a few years back with the Bears.
But back to the draft. By any chance, have the Lions heard about the economic recession that has hit Detroit the hardest?
I realize that a city’s financial troubles don’t directly relate to those of an NFL franchise – the Skins aren’t the only team printing Customized Miami Heat Jersey money. But the Lions appear oblivious to changing times and attitudes by reportedly Customized Heat Jersey agreeing to give Matthew Stafford a guaranteed $7
million more than top-quarterback pick Matt Ryan got from Atlanta last year.
Far-fetched? I’d say so.
It’s about as implausible as expecting a moratorium on NFL chatter anytime soon.
But I promise to do my part – starting now.

Cards remain atop D-I authentic Pablo Sandoval jersey Black | Republican & Herald; Pottsville, Pa. | Find Articles at BNET
PINE GROVE — There have been some wild Schuylkill League baseball games this season.

Monday’s Division I first-place showdown authentic Pablo Sandoval jersey Grey between Blue Mountain and Pine Grove takes the cake.
The Pablo Sandoval official jersey Cardinals overcame a nine-run deficit with six runs in their final three at-bats, rallying for a thrilling 12-11 win over the Eagles in eight innings at Stump Stadium.
John Cataldo’s sacrifice fly plated authentic Matt Cain jersey Orange Bryan Dimon with the winning run as Pine Grove (11-3, 7-1 D-I) takes a major step toward the Division I crown with the victory.
The Cardinals lead Blue Mountain (7-8, 6-3 D-I) by 1 1/2 games and Tamaqua (10-4, 5-3 D-I) by two games.

“That shows what this team is made of,” Pine Grove coach Keith Lehman said. “We just kept preaching quality at-bats, quality at- bats, take care of your at-bat.
“I don’t have the words to explain it right now.”
Blue Mountain (7-8, 6-3 D-I) started the game on fire, sending 14 batters to the plate
in the top of the first inning. The Eagles combined six walks with five singles and an error to tally nine runs and knock out Cards’ starter Preston Frantz.
Chris Needs and Kevin Berkheiser each had two-run singles in the frame, as the Eagles continued the offensive outburst they had in their authentic Matt Cain jersey Grey last appearance at Stump Stadium.
It was Blue Mountain’s first visit to Pine Grove since last year’s District 11 Class AAA title game, where the Eagles scored 10 runs in their final at-bat to beat Southern Lehigh.
Pine Grove, however, didn’t quit. The Cardinals kept chipping away at the lead, scoring a run in the second and a run in the third to make it 10-3.
“I thought if we kept fighting back the way this team has been fighting back all season, we might have a chance,” Dimon said. “Just one run at a time and see what happens.”
There were several keys to the Pine Grove comeback.
First, relievers Ryan Boyer, Dimon and Lee Krammes kept the Eagles’ bats quiet, allowing the Pine Grove offense to slowly chip away at the lead.
Boyer pitched 3.1 innings and gave up two runs before Dimon entered to start the fifth. He pitched into the eighth, where Krammes came on to get out of a first-and-third, one-out situation and authentic Mel Ott jersey White keep the game tied.
“Ryan Boyer came in and gave us some innings and kept it within reach,” Lehman said. “We thought we had plenty of at-bats coming.
“I thought Bryan pitched outstanding. Lee has been stepping up for us big time, at the plate and on the mound, and he stepped up big time for us again.”
Second, Blue Mountain committed five errors and made several other defensive miscues that sparked big innings. Two of those errors came in Pine Grove’s four-run fourth inning that sliced the lead to 10-6.
Another error came to start the sixth, with Blue Mountain leading 11-6. Joel Ney followed with a long home run into the houses on High Street, and the authentic Matt Cain jersey Black blast fueled a four-run rally that made it 11-10.
“Joel Ney’s home run was huge,” Dimon said. “That was a big motivation, got everybody up.”
Added Lehman: “And then we got the next guy on and the next guy on. They could have quieted it after that, but we got runners on to keep things going.”
Pine Grove authentic Matt Cain jersey Cream tied the game in the bottom of the Mel Ott official jersey seventh when Lee Krammes was hit authentic Matt Cain jersey White by a pitch, moved up to second when Ney walked, stole third and scored on Frantz’s sacrifice fly.
In the eighth, Dimon opened the inning with a walk off losing pitcher Needs, was sacrificed to second by Cale Hoover, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored when Cataldo lined a pitch to deep center.
“This feels great,” Dimon said. “The adrenaline was pumping.”

Sometimes it takes a little adversity to turn a baseball season around. For the Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Warriors, a lopsided loss two weeks ago was just the sour tonic they needed.
The Warriors used the four-hit pitching of Justin Walker and authentic Jerry West jersey Blue some daring baserunning to defeat rival Ringgold 4-1 Tuesday. It was the sixth consecutive Region 6-AAA win for LFO (18-5, 8-4), which holds the region’s fourth and final playoff spot with two games remaining.
Ringgold (13-10, 8-5), with one league game remaining, needs help to make the playoffs.

“It’s still up in the air,” LFO coach Brad Langford said. “It’s the same thing we’ve been facing the last two weeks. We just need to keep winning and take care of business. I think we’re peaking at the right time. They’re just having fun right now, and they’re playing with a lot of energy.”
No one more than authentic Jerry West jersey Purple Walker. The sophomore improved to 3-0 by doing the one thing Langford asked him to do: throw strikes.
“I just came out ready to throw,” he said after allowing no earned runs, striking out just one and walking three. “It was a big rivalry game that we had to win. My goal was to keep the ball low and not get it high in the zone. Kurt Rambis official jersey If I had gotten high in the zone, they would probably have hit a couple out.”
Walker and the Warriors trailed 1-0 after Josh Riley’s RBI single in the fourth inning. Ringgold freshman ace Matthew Crownover had faced just one batter over the minimum through three innings, so the authentic Kobe Bryant jersey White Warriors decided to try “small ball.”
Walker singled up the middle to start the bottom of the fourth, authentic Kobe Bryant jersey Black then stole second. Speedy Cody Commons then reached on an infield single, giving Langford the ideal time to authentic Kobe Bryant jersey Purple pull a double steal. Crownover, who has picked off numerous runners this season, threw over to first, which allowed Walker just enough time to cross home before the throw from first arrived.
Matt Osbourn followed with a authentic Jerry West jersey Yellow bunt single, sending Commons to third. Cody Cox made it 2-1 LFO with a sacrifice fly to right. The Warriors increased the lead to 3-1 in the fifth on Gabe Herman’s homer and stole home again in the sixth. This time it was Commons, who was safe after Crownover’s pitchout ticked off the glove of catcher Riley.
“Crownover is well mature above his years,” said Langford, explaining his team’s need for the aggressive baserunning. “He’s tough on the mound, and for us to score we knew we were going to have to roll the dice and make something happen.”
The Tigers twice had opportunities to cut into the lead, Kobe Bryant official jersey but third baseman Dylan Culver started double plays to end both the fifth and sixth innings. The second of those came after consecutive infield errors put runners on first and second with one out in the sixth.
“They were huge plays,” Walker said. “Dylan Culver is a great defensive player. I have faith in them; I knew they would bounce back. … We’ve had some crucial losses, but we’ve bounced back and played hard and played as a team.”
